Featuring items developed in collaboration with fashion designers Kim Jones and Dirk Bikkemberg, a guerilla Umbro store opened temporarily at the JaguarShoes Seventeen gallery with a monster party; Free Kim Jones Umbro cocktails and an tremendous performance by the UK’s no.1 beatboxer, KilaKela.
From 19 – 23 October 2004, Umbro and Shotgun opened a guerrilla store at Seventeen and threw a large party to celebrate it’s opening. Filling the space with their new range of sportswear in the black room displayed with a familiar school changing room chic, while freaky pink acid house inspired poly carvings and lots of red fluorescent lighting decorated the main room.
Kim Jones – This cult British menswear designer has developed a following for his refined, casual clothing, continually presenting his collections in diverse and creatively interesting ways, across mixed media; film, books, catwalk shows exhibits. Alongside his own collection, Jones designs and works for a variety of companies, in this instance, with the aim to reinterpret football fashion, he designs a range for sports brand Umbro, aptly entitled Umbro by Kim Jones. Jones has also worked as an art director and stylist for publications such as Dazed and Confused, Numero Homme, Another magazine, Ten + and the New York Times. The Face magazine had him as one of the top 100 influential people in fashion, at number 20 and received numerous awards and accreditations including; Topshop New Generation Award (twice winner), Dazed and Confused / Egg Bursary, GQ Magazine (3 nominations for “Man Of The Year” Awards two years running), Elle Style Awards (3 nominations) Arena magazine (menswear design award nominee).
Dirk Bikkemberg – one of the first designers to understand that football is more than just a sport but also represents the language of a genuine and positive way of life. He always tries to emphasis the beauty of physical contours, determined to exploit the qualities of a healthy fit body his clothes are designed for a strong body in movement.
Killa Kela – has had a meteoric rise since his emergence on the hip hop scene in 1999 when his success on the Jazzfudge Isolationist tour earned him his mantle, the Uk’s no.1 beatboxer as well as membership of the now disbanded but infamous scratch perverts. Concentrating on his solo career Kila has subsequently notched up hundreds of live performances, been in rolled in the legendary Rock Steady Crew and signed to music giants Sony BMG. He likes to keep busy and it has to be said, is one of the nicest people in the music industry you will ever have the pleasure to meet, a sure-fire friend and favourite of Jaguar Shoes.
