We are pleased to announce that our Christmas exhibition at Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes will be by crafts woman, Rosy Nicholas.
After graduating from Camberwell College of Art Rosy began working freelance across a range of fields including illustration, props and accessories. Rosy sees herself as a craft based maker, who favours simple yet sometimes time consuming hand made techniques and regular, modest materials to make her paper collages, hand drawn patterns and art deco inspired shapes.
‘If I should Die Tonight’ has been inspired by Rosy’s life long love affair with Ancient Egypt. This, her first ever solo exhibition, will see the first floor interior of Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes, turned into a fantastical tomb of dazzling morbid luxury. Housing a display of both found and hand crafted artefacts, traditionally put in place to accompany the dead on their voyage to the next life. The installation will be floor to ceiling opulence, things to wear, eat, pet and have in your home. All crafted in Rosy’s beautiful painterly style and signature colour pallete.
Music being a strong theme in Rosy’s work “If I should die tonight” is named after 1973 Marvin Gaye hit ballad. There are references through out the installation to Michael Jackson videos, Prince’s styling and the iconic work of Jean-Paul Goude.
Rosy has carved a successful career as a set designer creating props and window displays for clients such Selfridges, TOMS, Vogue, iD, MAC, Dazed and Confused, Andy Hillman, Lazy Oaf and Tim Walker.
For the last five seasons she has also collaborated on accessory designer, Fred Butler’s collections and together they have created one off accessory commissions for clients such as Nicola Formichetti, Patti Wilson, MAC, Vogue, ELLE, Dazed, Vision, Bullet and iD magazine.
Rosys other interests include watching operations on telly, David Hockney, drinking milk, dancing, worrying, rootbeer and boys.
