// CRISTOBAL AND THE SEA //
The ongoing dispute over explorer Cristobal Columbus’ nationality shows some country disputes will stay unresolved, but others are born to harmonise, in the case of Cristobal And The Sea. The London-based union of Alejandro ‘Ale’ Romero (bass, vocals, Spain), João Seixas (guitar, vocals, Portgual), Leïla Seguin (flute, vocals, Corsica/France) and Elliott Arndt (drums, French/ American) harnesses an altogether fluid, rhythmic and exquisitely melodic energy as colourful and evocative as their band name, forged from different strands of DNA, primarily bossa-nova, Afro-pop and Western folk and rock, but even here it’s varied, as much Animal Collective as it is Arthur Lee’s Love.

// GIZMO VARILLAS //
Born in Santander, Gizmo grew up in Bilbao and arrived in London by way of Cardiff where he studied media as an aspiring documentary maker. However, a lost summer
busking for food and accommodation across southern France lead him down another path. One year later his debut single ‘One and Only’ was warmly received with plays from Simon Raymonde on Amazing Radio and DJ Gary Crowley at BBC Introducing who called his sound “timeless.” The single reached 25 on the Tradio pop chart and he started receiving the seal of approval from seasoned artists the likes of La Yegros and Gavin James who he supported on tours across the UK and Europe. This included shows at the Rich Mix, Sage Newcastle, QMU Glasgow, Melkweg and Paradiso in Amsterdam to name a few.
